15 January 2012 - Planting season?

I came downstairs to take the girls to school one morning this week, and Madeline had left Joanne a note:

If you can't read it, it says "Mama, I miss you and love you. Madeline".  She's a sweet kid.

Our January has been very strange.  We've had a pretty mild winter, and some days in the 50s.  I was able to get the Christmas tree planted in the back yard.  The ground wasn't frozen at all when I dug the hole.

Here's the tree beside the hole, ready to have its burlap removed.

Here it is in all its glory.  I put a good bed of mulch around it to help insulate the ball against cold January temperatures.  So far, it looks like it's faring well and should be a nice addition to our back yard.
